The Food Experiment: Safety Assessment

The Food Experiment involves changing the content of your food and adopting an intermittent fasting plan to try and get your body into a "ketotic" state. To be safe to perform this experiment, you need to check with your doctor to ensure that fasting is an acceptable thing to do. If you have conditions like hypoglycemia, for example, your doctor may not want for you to participate in a fasting program. Likewise, diabetics or people with prediabetes who take glucose lowering medications would need to proceed with caution when adopting an intermittent fasting program. This is why that conversation with your doctor is crucial before you move forward with a program for intermittent fasting.

Changing your food content can also have implications for your health and the treatment of various illnesses, The most common issue that we see in practice when changing food content is gastrointestinal issues that arise from eating more fiber or something else that may upset your stomach.

Have a specific conversation with your physician about intermittent fasting and changes to the content of your food and document the result of that conversation as a safety statement in your notes.
