The safety assessment for the Fitness and Strength experiment involves making sure that you are safe to exercise primarily from a cardiovascular and orthopedic perspective. If you have heart disease or any cardiac condition at all, you should have a discussion with your physician before starting an exercise program. You should also choose an exercise that is not likely to exacerbate any orthopedic problems that you may have. In fact, any chronic illness at all, should warrant a discussion with your doctor about the benefits of exercise and what types may be best for you. We firmly believe that exercise is the best medicine known to mankind, but we also believe that a strong relationship with your doctor is good for your health and we encourage all of our participants to focus on that.
Please mention to your physician that you plan to start an exercise program before you start the fitness and strength experiment. Ask him or her if they have any restrictions for you and any thoughts on what exercise may be the best for you.
