Steps to the Stage: How to Perform the Food Experiment

Updated: Feb 18

  1. If you performed the sugar experiment, start with the diet that you developed from that experiment. Hopefully this is a diet with very little processed food, and almost no concentrated sweets or carbohydrates.

  2. Complete the nutrition assessment and record the food and beverage consumed along with the food score for each meal. Use the food content score for the anti-inflammatory diet described on the website.

  3. Record the timing of your food as well and obtain ketone test strips for urine.

  4. Test your urine for ketones for 2 weeks in the morning and afternoon. Record the times of a positive urine test for ketones along with the timing and content of your meals.

  5. Repeat your measurement of hsCRP. This is a primary outcome for the food experiment.

  6. Write your hypothesis statement. Primary outcomes are a lower food score, hours spent in ketotic state and hsCRP. Secondary outcomes can include any of the other outcomes in the entire experiment, but measures of glucose control and lipids are particularly responsive.

  7. Initiate food interventions by choosing a type of intermittent fasting and focusing on foods in the 0 and 1 categories in the anti-inflammatory diet.

  8. Continue to measure urine ketones and record your food score in your journal for 2 months.

  9. After 2 months. repeat your hsCRP and then prepare a statement of achievement about the primary outcomes, food score, hours in ketotic state and hsCRP.

  10. Repeat any secondary measurements that you used in your hypothesis statement.
