The Sugar Experiment: Overview

The first experiment you will perform in the lifestyle experiment is designed to get quick results and demonstrate how ever present the problem of insulin resistance really is. When you become insulin resistant, the first thing that happens is that you begin to become sensitive to carbohydrates. When you eat any carbohydrate at all, and in particular concentrated carbohydrates like sweets you have a quick and often sustained elevation of your blood sugar (glucose). In this experiment, you are going to wear a continuous glucose monitor to look at your glucose patterns throughout the day. You will make observations about how frequent your spikes in glucose are and which foods are most likely to trigger them. Then, you will eliminate those foods from your diet and try to sustain a low average glucose and avoid spikes above 160 for at least two weeks or more.
